Meet the Red Fox

The Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) is a common North American mammal with a slender reddish brown body and white underside. The red fox can live in a variety of habitats, including open fields, woodlands and wetlands, and it has even adapted to live in urban areas. We see Red Foxes all throughout our watersheds. Red foxes are omnivores that eat mainly rodents, insects, as well as berries and fruit. These foxes are important to ecosystems because they help to keep the rodent populations down and they spread the seeds of plants to different locations. Red foxes make a variety of different noises, the most common one being a series of barks, and this is why so many people ask, “What does the Fox Say?” To learn more about the Red Fox: visit https://www.chesapeakebay.net/.../field-guide/entry/red-fox
