Meet The Black-throated Green Warbler

The Black-throated Green Warbler (Setophaga virens) is a bird that is characterized by its striking black throat and bright yellow face. This bird plays a vital role in forest ecosystems. This bird tends to fly and hunt for its prey between forest foliage and tree canopy, searching for insects, predominantly caterpillars, and berries. The male warblers sing for their territory and interestingly, only the males can sing. This bird’s foraging behaviors aid in seed dispersal and nutrient cycling in their habitats. Declines in Black-throated Green Warbler populations can signal ecosystem disturbances such as habitat or food source loss.
