This year, MD-Dept of Natural Resources Forest Service is hosting double-header Plum-Palooza collection event at New Market Elementary. The first event will be from 4pm-6pm on Saturday, September 14th. The second event will be on Sunday September 15th, from 9am to 12pm.
Event Details:
Location: New Market Elementary School, 93 W Main St, New Market, MD 21774
Time: Saturday September 14th, 4pm-6pm AND Sunday September 15th, 9am-12pm (come and go as you please).
Notes:
Park in the lot behind the school and use the walking trail between the two sport fields to access the plum stand. There will be youth football going on at the same time. See the attached image labeled "NMES Plums" for reference on where the collection site is located.
Pack plenty of water and a snack.
Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. I recommend a sun hat, long sleeves, sturdy shoes, and long pants.
Bring work gloves and a 5-gallon bucket, if you have one.
Bring sunblock and bug spray.
This event is happening rain or shine. In the unlikely event of a cancellation, I will send out an email notice.
Note: stinging insects like plums! If you are allergic, please practice caution and be sure to bring any necessary medication.
We will have seed collection bags and bins there. If you don't have work gloves, I have a limited amount that I can lend out for the day.
