ACWA Tree Stewards have identified a stand of trees planted many years ago that have become misshaped and girdled due to too-tight tree tubes (photos above). These tubes are usually typically to protect young trees from animal grazing, weed whackers, and deer rub. However, the tubes should be inspected for years after the initial planting to ensure they remain upright, secure, and do not hinder tree growth. Eventually, the tubes should be removed when they become too small or refuse to split open.
Experienced is not needed to volunteer during this work event while we treat the trees to much needed TLC. Helpers will be guided by ACWA Tree Stewards to remove tree tubes and stakes, drag branches to drop spot, gather trash, and bundle materials for reuse. Bring your water bottle and work gloves. ACWA will provide the supplies and the TREATS!
